NIGERIA VS MEXICO HIGHLIGHTS AND THE FULL MATCH

The match between Nigeria and Mexico may have been a friendly that ended in a 2-2 draw against a 10 man Mexican team it showed a lot of deficiencies in our team as we prepare for the next crucial world cup qualifying matches and Confederation cup. The two goals scored by Chicharito was cancelled by Brown Ideye and an own goal by Gerrado Torrado of Mexico who deflected John Ogu's shot into the net. With John Obi Mikel,Victor Moses,Kalu Uche and Emmanuel Emenike out due to injuries, the Nigerian midfield paraded Sunday Mba,Ogenyi Onazi and John Ogu while the attack had the trio of Brown Ideye,Joseph Akpala & Nnamdi Odumadi. The defence lineup remained unchanged as Elderson Echiejile,Kenneth Omeruo,Godfrey Oboabona & Efe Ambrose made up the defence.
The main achilles heels of the Nigerian team was the central defensive pair of Oboabona and Emeruo who was caught flat footed on both times that Chicharito scored a goal. Their sense of awareness and reading of the game was really below par against the Mexicans and if they carry the same attitude to the Confedration cup, this is just disaster waiting to happen. I hope Stephen Keshi will work with them having been a top notch Central defender during his playing days to get the best out of Oboabona and Emeruo.
