Thus far, it seems that someone is missing the obvious. If Trayvon had approached Zimmerman in his car, the altercation would have taken place in the street. This is not the case, however. It took place on the grass and sidewalk. The second question which might be raised is the fact that Zimmerman's minor wounds could have been self inflicted. It wouldn't be the first time such a thing has been known to have happened..Let's get back to the basics/reality of what occurred between Zimmerman and Martin... Martin was being pursued by Zimmerman and Martin was rightfully scared. Zimmerman initiated the confrontation with Martin and a tussle ensued. Martin was trying to defend himself and I'm sure became more frightened when he saw Zimmerman had a gun. Good for Martin if he did end up on top and got a few punches in – at this point I'm sure Martin thought he was fighting for his very life. Even rape victims, who are fighting for their life, quite often inflict some kind of injury to their attacker. Martin was scared and defending his life and had every right to inflict a few "defensive" scratches and bumps on Zimmerman's head. Zimmerman pursued and confronted Martin, when told not to by authorities, a scuffle ensued, Martin was getting the better of Zimmerman, so Zimmerman "chose" to use his gun (deadly force) and shot Martin – this is "at least" 2nd Degree Murder! 

Regarding the use of racial word by Trayvon,this girl and the teenage Trayvon were talking to each other as teens do....they are not politically correct as adults sometimes try to do. The fact is that If Mr. Zimmerman were to have stopped following the young man when he was told to by the 911 operator, none of us would be talking about this.

What if the black man had killed the white man? Would he be defended the same way there is no excuse for regardless of the circumstances.

ASIANA CRASH VICTIM SURVIVED CRASH ONLY TO BE RAN OVER BY EMERGENCY VEHICLE

Survived a plane crash and get run over by the rescue truck, while on the way to a Christian retreat? This is so sad that one can't comprehend such a sad way to die. I guess you can call this unfortunate episode: Final Destination. This whole scenario is so tragic that words can't describe the amount of horrible pain that this victim must have been subjected to before dying...This whole incident is so fucked up all around. Perhaps she may have been covered by white foam that was sprayed on the plane by the initial responders or maybe she was in the  rubble or where she wasn't clearly visible.

Just imagine you survive plane crash somehow and still gets run over by the same folks who were on their way to rescue you.

The emergency response team was there to help and it is a terrible tragedy that this occurred ,but wouldn't it be logical to assume that people might have been ejected from the plane during the crash? Driving the fire truck is pure human error, although its a bit difficult to blame anyone for this. Maybe there should be an effort to redesign emergency vehicles that would be used on runways that have a frontal appendage that would sweep everything that is in its path away while it races to any emergency situation on the runway where there is debris and foams scattered.

What this means once it is followed through and enshrined in our laws and Constitution is that girls that are as young as nine years old, provided they are deemed as having been ‘’physically developed enough’’ by their suitors, could be lawfully bedded and married in our country. That is the sordid level that we have now, as a people and as a nation, degenerated to. I weep for Nigeria and, perhaps more appropiately, I weep for the Nigerian girl-child.   Yet we have no choice but to live with this new reality and to accept it as it is. After all, our representatives in the sacred halls of the Senate were not sensitive enough or ‘’man enough’’ to shoot down the whole thing, to stand firmly against the unholy agenda and to say boldly and firmly that, ‘’come what may’’, our children must be protected from sexual deviants and reprobates.

ISLAM AND KIDS MARRIAGE. IT IS NOW ABOUT COMMON SENSE.

My own concern is not whether a woman (or girl) gets married at 14, 16 or 18. What concerns me is whether she is allowed to complete secondary school or not, before getting married. 

A secondary school certificate is the minimum education everyone needs in order to fend for themselves later in life. Girls should be allowed to acquire this minimum before going into marriage so that they could fend for themselves in the event of divorce, widowhood or their husbands falling on hard times. 

I have sisters who at a point in their lives were divorced or widowed but were able to take care of themselves because they are educated and employed. 

They were able to do that because my father (who was a ‘conservative’ Muslim by all standards) allowed them to complete secondary school before marriage way back in the 70s. 

If my father had figured that out in the 70s, I find it hard to comprehend why this is even a matter for argument in 2013. If early marriage that interferes with the ability of a girl to complete secondary school is encouraged ostensibly in order to protect her from immoral ways, I want to say that such a girl will still be left with a risk of falling into immorality later in her life if she gets divorced or widowed and is not able to fend for herself. 

There is no woman that is at risk of falling into immorality more than the woman who cannot fend for herself. I agree that the National Assembly should not legislate counter to citizens’ religious beliefs but that does not absolve the Muslim community of the responsibility to, on its own, ensure that girls are equipped with the minimum they need to face whatever life could throw at them in the future. - by Raji Bello, Abuja.

If this road rage was in downtown Los Angeles i am sure there would have been gun shots all over.  A strange case of Los Angeles road rage between two men in business attire was caught on camera. The brawl landed one of the well-dressed men behind bars.The two men had just gotten off the 405 Freeway at Burbank Boulevard when all of a sudden one of the men, who has made a career out of studying the law, apparently decided to take the law into his own hands."I thought maybe they knew each other, but then he hit him," said Breuer. "You don't normally see two older guys in ties having a street fight," said witness Jessica Breuer, who captured the fight on her cellphone camera. According to Breuer, attorney Randalf Kincaid got out of his car first and hit the driver of a BMW. "As I'm sitting there, suddenly the person in the car in front of me leaps out of his car, he runs over to the car in the other lane, and the guy opens his door, and the guy who had run out just starts hitting him," said Breuer.Breuer said when Kincaid attempted to get into his car and leave the scene during a green light, the bloodied other driver jumped on him, brought him to the ground and tried to keep him in place until authorities arrived.Other rush hour commuters got out of their cars to help and eventually Kincaid was arrested on battery charges.Kincaid is an active member of the State Bar of California. In his 26 years as an attorney, he has no previous record of discipline. It's not clear exactly what prompted him to apparently snap this time."From what it looked like, he was basically just angry about something that happened on the road. It was road rage," said Breuer.Kincaid did not respond to our requests for a comment. The other driver didn't want to go on camera or be identified, but told Eyewitness News he didn't know what he may have done to set Kincaid off. BOEING 777 ASIANA AIRLINE FLIGHT 214 CRASHES IN SAN FRANCISCO

A Boeing 777 operated by Asiana Airlines which is one of the major airlines from South Korea crashed today as it was approaching the landing strip at San Francisco International Airport today. Asiana airline is one of the major airlines from South Korea,with the other one being Korea Air.

Flight 214 was said to the flown from Seoul's Incheon International Airport today and had been airborne for roughly 10 hours and 23 minutes enroute to San Francisco,California.

Details are still sketchy as to what really happened and the conditions today are perfect but I sincerely hope everyone made it out okay.This also brings attention to our flying habits as we fly frequently,we tend to pay minimal attention to the air hostesses as they talk to us about the safety measures like emergency exit sites.Maybe this incident could serve as a reminder that we need to pay attention to emergency procedures at the start of every flight, instead of continuing to play with our electronics discretely,read or stare out the window while the flight attendants go through the run-down on safety issues. MUSLIM LEADER DEMANDS SEGREGATED CAMPS FOR MALES AND FEMALES

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has called on the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to stop mixing males and females in the National Youth Service Scheme physical exercise at orientation camps as it disrespects Islamic tenets and further disregards the sensibilities of Muslims. This was contained in a communique signed by JNI Secretary General, Dr. Khalid Abubakar at the end of a peace and unity conference for Muslim scholars in Kaduna. He called on the NYSC to respect the decency and chastity of female corp members during physical exercises and other activities at the orientation camps, and provide alternative camps for female Muslim corp members. JNI also noted that the refusal of the federal government to institute a judicial process of inquiry or prosecute those arrested or accused of perpetrating violence in the country is an indication of a leadership that is not sensitive to the plights of the people, adding that the attacks and displacement of Muslims in Borno, Taraba and Plateau states have continued unabated as a result of government’s inaction. The statement further accused the federal government and the affected state governments of showing indifference and non-challant attitude towards settling and rehabilitating displaced Muslim communities in Tafawa Balewa in Bauchi state and Zonkwa in Kaduna state. The statement further accused the government and the media of playing double standards in ascribing terrorism to Islam. It also blamed the media for exonerating other religions from such criminality, adding that Muslims are being marginalized in almost all strategic government establishments, organizations and institutions in the country .

This religious nonsense is leading Nigeria to dangerous abyss yet we still have religious leaders like Dr. Khalid Abubakar are still expending energy on ridiculous issues like segregating males and females. How does that change the current poverty and corruption that pervades in the entire country?All Nigerians have been wronged. I WITNESSED MY FRIENDS BUTCHERED BY BOKO HARAM-SURVIVOR

Corpses of the 10 traders murdered in Mugunu, Borno State by suspected Boko Haram members arrived at the Bodija Market in Ibadan North Local Government of Oyo State on Tuesday.

Their remains were first received by the executive of market union at about 2pm at the toll gate before being taken to the tension-filled market.

The traders were on a business trip to the state when they met their untimely death on Saturday.

On sighting the corpses, hundreds of traders, relatives of the deceased and sympathisers, who had gathered in the market, started weeping uncontrollably.

One of the survivors of the attack, Taoheed Adewuyi, 32, said, “They ( attackers) stopped us along the way and asked us to come down from our vehicle and lie down. They started shooting us one by one.

“I was shot but I was not badly injured. I fainted but later became conscious. I am lucky to be alive.

“One of them went into their vehicle and slaughtered one of us with a knife. The man that was slaughtered is called Ninalowo.

“He was slaughtered because they discovered that he was still breathing after they shot him. I shivered and almost cried out in shock; but I was lucky that I did not. They were Boko Haram members.

A trader, who identified himself simply as Emiola, said, “We cannot confirm the actual number of those who lost their lives. What we know is that 10 of our people were killed.”

The Babaloja of Oyo State, Chief Dauda Oladapo, urged the Federal Government to address the insecurity in the land.

Oladapo said, “This Boko Haram issue is really affecting us. Will government allow them to wipe all of us out? So many people have been killed.

“Prices of food and other agricultural produce that we get from the North have gone up astronomically because it is difficult to get them now as a result of the crisis.”

The Head of Hausa community at Bodija Market, Alhaji Isiyaka Hassan, urged the government to provide adequate security in the interest of the citizens.

The Bodija Food Market was shut on Monday as the traders mourned the murder of their colleagues

ASUU STRIKE AGAIN!!!

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday declared an indefinite strike nationwide. The union adopted a resolution to go on strike after its ASUU-NEC meeting at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, from Sunday till Monday.

Fifty-one of the union’s 53 branches unanimously agreed to embark on the strike. The action followed the default by the Federal Government to:

Honour the Academic Earned Allowance (AEA) which formed a component of the 2009 agreement the FG signed with the union.

Declaring the strike, ASUU Chairman at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter, Dr Karo Ogbinaka, told reporters yesterday that the strike was a “painful yet inevitable decision”.

He said ASUU was tired of the government’s inconsistency, adding that the union could no longer tolerate the insults.

Throwing more light on the AEA, Ogbinaka said it includes allowances paid as part of excess work load responsibility allowance and the allowance for supervision of post-graduate programmes, for lecturers, heads of departments (HoDs), deans, examination officers, among others.

He said the highest AEA is N12,500 per month, wondering why it was difficult for the government to live up to its promises.

Ogbinaka recalled that following the 2009 agreement, the Federal Government entered into an MoU with the ASUU and other academic bodies. The union leader said after negotiation, the government agreed to also support tertiary education with N100billion.

He added: “Later, the government came out to say N100 billion was too much and might cause inflation. We again came down to N80 billion. But to our surprise, the Minister of Education and the NUC told us that the money was not included in the budget. Later, they promised it will be included in the supplementary budget.

“But later, the government said it could only pay 50 per cent of the N80 billion, which is about one quarter of the total amount. To complicate matter, the government said it would pay only one-off while universities would then continue to pay the rest.

“We felt this is a betrayal of the agreement and this is what forced us to convene this NEC meeting where 51 of our 53 branches nationwide unanimously agreed that the strike is the only solution.”

BEHEADING IN ALLAH'S NAME OR FOR POLITICAL GAIN?

A Catholic priest, Franciscan Father Francois Murad has been killed in Syria, it has been confirmed by the official Vatican news agency. Francois Murad is said to have died after fighters linked to the jihadist group Jabhat al-Nusra attacked the monastery he was staying at, local sources say.

Catholic Online links to amateur footage purporting to show the 49-year-old's horrific death and reports: "The Vatican is confirming the death by beheading of Franciscan Father, Francois Murad, who was martyred by Syrian jihadists on June 23."

It shows a man the channel understands is the priest, sitting cross-legged with his hands bound, alongside two other men while fighters surround them chanting “Allah Akbar” (God is great). Video after the cut... ...but we warned, it's extremely graphic:

The site claims Father Murad had been accused of collaborating with the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, though the accusations are unconfirmed.

The official report into Father Murad's death – submitted via the Fides news agency - states he died in Gassanieh, northern Syria. It claims the circumstances of his death “are not fully clear”, but confirms militants had attacked the monastery where he was living.

Fides states Father Murad had began the construction of a coenobitic monastery in Gassanieh, shortly after being ordained. At the start of the civil war, the structure was bombed and he moved to the convent of the Custody of the Holy Land for safety.

John and Love Kumuyi, write to express our deepest and most sincere apology for the turn of events, that have resulted on our traditional and wedding ceremonies, that took place in Jamaica on 13th June and 15th June, 2013 respectively.

We unreservedly and wholeheartedly state, that we did not intend that our acts or omissions will in any way undermine the great works that God has done through the Deeper Christian Life Ministry Worldwide and more specifically , through our Father in the Lord, the General Superintendent (GS).

We also use this medium to profusely and sincerely apologies to the general superintendent for the embarrassment and heartaches our actions have caused him, more so that he had earlier declined to be at the events.

We acknowledge that we may have been distracted by cultural differences, as both of us have been outside the country for the past two decades. This notwithstanding, we fully accept that having being nurtured, taught and brought up with the sound teaching of the word of God, we should have been able to draw the line, which we failed to do.

We have now realized the effects of our actions and omission and do plead with the church for forgiveness and also appealing that any action that should be taken be directed at John and Love, as we take this time to prayerfully reflect on our actions.

HOW LAUTECH STUDENT,SEUN ADARAMOYE WAS MURDERED

The death of Oluwaseun Adaramoye, an undergraduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lautech whose body was found behind a popular guest house in Ogbomosho has become a topic of interest on the lips of many, particularly students of Ladoke Akintola University Of Technology,

“Seun Adaramoye was an 100 level accounting student, she stayed in Stadium area around Lawyer Ahmed Junction, she’s a hostel mate and also my friend.On Sunday evening (16th of June), we were al gisting outside the hostel as we normally do and around 5pm, Seun just said she’s coming
and left. She was on casual outfits like all of us, so we thought she had gone to the junction to buy stuffs but she went to her best friend’s place not far from the hostel. “When Seun was leaving her best friend’s apartment, she told her that she wants to quickly get to her boyfriend’s place in Oke-
Anu around 7pm on that same Sunday evening and that was the last time we both
saw Seun.“We didn’t even notice on time that she hasn’t returned cos she’s a female and no one can monitor a grown lady, so we assume that she should be with her boyfriend Lanre (REAL NAME) not until wednesday morning when Seun refused to show up for her last paper. Her friend came to check on her in the hostel and it was then that she informed us that Seun is no where to be found, we
searched and searched for Seun but all to no avail.On Thursday morning, we decided to report
her dissappearance to the school authorities, that was when we heard the news of a dead
body which was discovered at the back of Jastok Guest House.On getting there, we couldn’t identify the body because several parts of her body had been cut off, her chest, one hand, half her
head was gone. We were eventually able to recognise Seun by her hairdo and mark on her leg, her birth
mark and the remains of her cloth on the body.So the police and the SUG were invited and
they went after the boyfriend who had obviously absconded, so he has not been arrested as been speculated but his best friend was arrested. People thought he was arrested because of the search and the arrest of his best friend but he hasn’t been found till now, he’s gone into exile.On Searching Lanre’s house, the police found mysterious things like Calabash, Ladies Bra,Panties, Nails and several underwears.Our friend Seun was never a runs girl, she was a very gentle and loving soul, she was
just unlucky to have fallen a victim of some desperate souls. She has since been buried by her brother here in Ogbomosho because the body was already decaying with worms all over and moreover it’s an uncompleted body and they won’t bury her like that in her hometown.
