UNITED WINS THE COMMUNITY SHIELD AS THE SEASON KICKS OFF WITHOUT WAYNE ROONEY



United showed no signs of missing want away striker Wayne Rooney as they defeated their Championship opposition, Wigan who were last season's FA cup winners and are currently languishing in the Championships.An exquisite header early in the first-half and an excellent shot that was deflected ensured victory for United. The new coach David Moyes decided to select Van Persie, Danny Welbeck and youngster Willian Zaha in the attack.The Red Devils imposed themselves on their opponents  and scored their first goal within 10 minutes as Van Persie rose imperiously to redirect Patrice Evra's cross past goalkeeper Scott Carson in the Wigan goal.Van Persie scored a second goal to ensure United's victory with his second of the game  as his shot was deflected by the wigan defender James Perch into his own net.
