THE PAINFUL TRUTH ABOUT PRIVATE JET OWNERSHIP

A Boeing Business Jet,like the one used by the Nigerian presidency costs $80M. The smaller private jets used by Aliko Dangote,Mike Adenuga and co is the Gulfsream (400-500 series) which cost about $45M. While jets like Hawker Siddley,Bombadier Challenger 600 series,Global Express,Embraer Legacy and Falcons costs about $35million.According to Forbes magazine Nigerians spent $6.5Billion on private jets which makes Nigeria one of the largests markets for private jets.During Nuhu Ribadu's reign as EFCC chairman, the fear of EFCC made many Nigerian ruling elites wary of private jet acquisition. The Poverty and unemployment levels in Nigeria is mind boggling while our ruling elites and prosperity gospel ministers expend huge resources on maintaining private jets. Maintainance of a jet requires a lot of resources, infact an aircraft costs huge sums of money when parked. One trip on a private jet is equivalent of 1000 times the sum paid on a first class ticket on a commercial jet. For a plane to travel, you need a sundry retinue of permits that cost money, maintainance fees, money expended on crew wages and to conduct routine A check,B check,C check and D check you need huge sums of money. Most times, these are conducted in foreign currencies.American billionaire ,Warren Buffet who owns the largest plane manufacturing company in American commutes with economy class in commercial airlines.Despite this,he is still held in high regard by Americans. He does not need to travel in private jets to assuage his ego. Infact Warren Buffet lives in the same modest house in Omaha since 1970 and he drives the same lincoln car for the past 22 years.Billionaire,Bill gates does not own a private jet and he owns a Lexus car for over 10 years now.The last time Bill Gates visited Nigeria with his wife,he came with a commercial economy ticket. So any Nigerian pastor claiming that he needs a private jet to reach out to his numerous flocks overseas or any of our 'thieving ruling elites' who says they need a private jets, they should borrow a leaf from these two great men. There is so much need in the country and they can reach out to the needy instead of living in 'obscene and purulent opulence'
