SAME SEX MARRIAGE PUNISHABLE BY 14 YEARS JAIL TERM IN NIGERIA

The Nigerian house of Representative has passed a bill that makes it punishable by 14years for same sex marriage. The bill was roundly supported by both political parties and was passed in record time. While it can argued that homosexuality is alien to Nigeria's conservative culture,it is mainly a moral issue depending on which side you belong to thus to try and promulgate a law that will legislate morality of what two consenting adults decide to do with their bodies is a pointless and ignorant law that takes us back to the dark ages where twins were murdered under the belief that they are an aberration. If your Religious belief states that homosexual marriage is a sin that will land people in hell, why not allow them to go to hell with their homosexual practices? Why would we as a nation just don't legalize same sex marriages but to now make it illegal with a punishable with a prison sentence is just taking it too far and it shows how we have a penchant to celebrate the misplaced priorities of our ruling class who will always look for who to make a scapegoat for their abysmal failure to render adequate legislation to curb corruption which is what has held the nation under total bondage. There is no justification for the amount of energy expended on this irrelevant law when they can put our tax money to better use by stop playing to the gallery. Our nation is one of the world's largest oil producers blessed with abundant human resources yet we are still one of the poorest in the world. We have a penal codes that gives a slap on the wrist for graft yet we are willing to jail someone  for fourteen years for same sex marriage. Why don't we expend that energy in passing harsher laws that will jail our looting ruling class when they err? While the legislators may have their reason for passing the bill,it would have been much useful if they can pass harsher penalties for judicial officers who connive with  political office holders who loot the nation's treasury day in day out with so much impunity without any thing happening to them. We have legal system that promotes corruption of public office holders by granting them perpetual injuction that makes their corruption cases to languish in the courts for years while some one who steals a cellphone is punished swiftly and more harshly. This bill is just an exercise to distract gullible Nigerians into believing that the legislators are doing something when they are actually doing nothing to further the course of making things better in Nigeria. They have failed woefully to discharge their oversight functions without collecting bribes from Federal agencies, many members of the house who were found to have engaged in fraud are still parading themselves as legislators due to the fact that the laws that govern the punishment for such crimes are nothing but a joke as must of them if they ever get convicted end up just getting getting a slap on the wrist.
